A CHURCH THAT WELCOMES YOU!
We are a living, breathing, growing, welcoming, progressive Christian community
right in the heart of Seattle's Alki beach neighborhood. We believe that faith is a journey, not a destination, and we are blessed to share the journey with each other. We are 90-somethings and 20-somethings, toddlers and infants, and a lot of us somewhere in between. We are single, married and partnered; introverted and outgoing;
LGBTQ+, cis, hetero and non-binary … bring your whole self. All are welcome here!
We don't believe Christianity is the only way, but it's the way we've been called to follow,
and we are trying to live it with as much integrity and joy as we can.
We are a church where Jesus the healer meets Jesus the revolutionary,
and where together, we grow a just and peaceful world.
"Growing together as disciples of Jesus Christ,
courageously sharing God's love with each other and the world."
— Alki UCC Purpose Statement
Alki UCC is an "Open and Affirming" Faith Community
Jesus welcomed everyone, and we do too. Jesus conveyed his and God's merciful and compassionate love for all of us - part of the one human family. We affirm everyone’s God-created uniqueness and holiness in this world. We value and celebrate diversity, investing ourselves as an active social justice community in the healing of prejudice, exclusion and hatred.
From Alki UCC's 1998 "Open and Affirming" Proclamation, updated Fall 2020:
"We who cherish Alki United Church of Christ as our spiritual home have formed a community of faith in the loving presence of Jesus Christ. Believing that all people are created equal and have the right to seek God's presence in a loving community of faith, we proclaim that all who seek compassion, respect and love for their fellow beings are welcome into this church, regardless of race, age, gender, gender expression, physical ability, level of education, opinion, social position or sexual orientation."
• Inhumane social confinement due to mass incarceration and surveillance of communities of color
• Global confiscation of another culture's land and resources
• Human trafficking and the enslavement and sexual violence and assault against women and children
• Deportation and the separation of families from immigrant communities
• Police brutality and militarized tactics and abuses resulting in the murder of people of color
• Using global armaments and acts of terrorism on innocent civilians domestically and abroad
• Supporting White Christian supremacy over and against non-Christian faith communities
“God has not given us a spirit of fear, but the spirit of power, of courage and resolution,
to meet difficulties and dangers; the spirit of love which will carry us through opposition.” 2 Timothy 1:7
Belief in Action
Alki UCC and Admiral UCC are predominantly white congregations in predominantly white neighborhoods. We understand that the most important thing we can do is to grow our own antiracist practices and to advocate antiracist thought and action in our community.

Introducing Alki UCC's Bridge Pastor, Rev. Louis Mitchellby Alki UCC on March 1, 2021

His many experiences include Co-Pastor, Recovering the Promise Ministries, Co-Founder of Transfaith, Pastor South Congregational Church, and recently a minister-participant in Plymouth Congregational, Seattle.
